I started this blog after Christmas 2009, and for the year ending at Christmas 2010, I'd managed to beat 43/70 games. It's not what I set out to do (which would be 100% beaten), but it was still probably 42 more games than I had finished any other year in recent memory. At the end of last year, I put up my year end stats, and thought I would be able to beat the remaining 27 games on the backlog plus whatever new things I picked up in 2011.
Not even close.
Not only did I manage to not beat most of the remaining 27 games, but I purchased 26 new titles in 2011. As of Christmas Day 2011, I have beaten 17 games, and now have 36 in my remaining backlog. I have completed -9 games overall this year. That's not how it's supposed to work. I have my hourly stats, but again-- this only includes games I've beaten, not works in progress that have sizable time amounts on them such as Skyrim or the (still undefeated) Monster Hunter Tri.
2011 Played hours on Backlog : 428.25
2011 Played hours on World of Warcraft : 590
Total hours of gaming in 2011 : 1018.25
Average daily hours of gaming : 2.79 hours per day
This is not too drastically different from last year, except I've played about 2/3 of the amount of time less on the Backlog itself, and another 170 hours worth of WoW. Overall, I've spent about 30 less minutes per day gaming in 2011, but I think that's been drastically skewed by the last quarter of the year. From October to present, due to the birth of my son and the following period where I get no sleep or any free time, I've really only played Skyrim, Civ V, and a couple nights of WoW. Add in that I lost an iPhone with a 45+ hour game of Final Fantasy Tactics, and a fried 360 that is still not replaced, and there's a lot of partially finished games that were stopped prematurely.
Anyway, Year 3 of the Backlog will start soon, and I will be starting with 36 games staring at me in the face already, and a very tempting slate of daily Steam discounts I will need to fight. I see that Bulletstorm is only $4.99 today... oh boy. I'm doomed again.
